We have seen a trend in contemporary furnishings throughout 2007 and it seems that trend will continue through 2008. This year we expect to see an emphasis in contemporary eco-friendly design. With every designer looking for earth friendly materials in architectural building as well as in interior furnishings, the future looks bright for mother nature. We even found a company in the UK called Otto Furniture that says it would rather refurbish its old furniture than to see them recycled.
Another trend for 2008 will be the color “Blue Iris” or Pantone 18-3943. Pantone is a New Jersey based company and is a leading source for color choices. Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says that of all Pantone’s 3,000 hues, Blue Iris, known to professionals as PANTONE 18-3943, best suits the modern psyche. We will also see a rise in complimentary tones such as reddish brown, deep plum, yellow-green, and gray.
We also expect to see a rise in remodels as a trend for 2008. With the negative sales slope of 2007 behind us and the mortgage industry stabilizing with good “honest” rates, we expect to see less new construction and more remodels. Some of the positives to purchasing a remodel is that you are generally buying in an established neighborhood and have maturity in your landscaping. However buyer beware and make sure you have a good inspection of the home before buying anything. Of the remodels, we expect to see contemporary design sneaking its way into Utah. With the Grand opening of Ikea in Draper and many established local furniture stores like San Francisco Design Company that offer high-end contemporary, expect to see a jump in remodels that have a contemporary take on them.
