Southern Utah Contemporary

There is something about Southern Utah that is so peaceful. Maybe it is that Vegas is kept at an arms length. Maybe it is that the snow covered red cliffs are so very serene. Maybe it is the ambiance of the surroundings. I am not quite sure but it is very peaceful here.

When I think of peaceful or zen, I generally think of Japanese style. From the old world zen gardens and landscapes to the the newly contemporary designs that have been created. What Southern Utah has really done right is allow this zen-like area to follow suit in its homes. JD Thompson built an extraordinary home for the Parade of Homes that left many talking about after the parade had long since been over. And the peacefulness was everything that the visitors wanted.

Contemporary living has many shapes and sizes. Many of the contemporary homes have blunt shapes and colors to them. What JD Thompson did was figure out a way to create a home that had a contemporary style with a lot of natural elements. The elements they chose took a lot of the blunt shapes out of the equation and made the home very serene. Another thing that was well thought out was the views from the home. There are a lot of windows around this home and all of them have something to say or a story to tell.

Another part of the design is the color scheme. Look closely at this home and you will see where the designer took off with colors and textures. The home was designed to be just that… a home. So the designer had to incorporate pieces that would feel like home. Note the low-lying furniture around the windows but the high-back bed in the master. Every piece was well thought out, every color and texture, the architectural and interior design mixed… naturally.
