A successful developer told me not too long ago that every development he purchases has to meet certain criteria. One of his most important rules that governs his business has to do with location. He said to look for the areas where Wal-Mart, Costco, Home Depot and other major players are moving into. The areas nearby will eventually (and almost always) be hot spots for residential real estate. He has a pretty good point.

uch a simple sounding question would take a lifetime to answer. The search for the perfect home is always on peoples minds. From people who want a large scale mansion to people who want a platinum level green home, the luxury home could be defined in multiple ways. So what is it that no matter who you are and what your tastes are, would define a tasteful and luxurious home?

So for starters, can a luxury mansion and a small footprint "green home" have anything in common? In my opinion, I often feel happier in rooms with tall ceilings. This is something that I have noticed in every style home. From starter homes, green homes and large mansions, everyone feels more at home in rooms that feel open. What else could make a room feel open? How about windows? I have noted that even in many of these green homes and modern homes have large windows. Windows always make the room bright and open. There is also a great feeling of openness and balance from choosing the right colors in the rooms. The wrong colors can make even a large room feel cramped or un-inviting. Many of the ideas involving a proper balance of lighting, scale and colors can show where both styles have a common interest.

When we arrived at this peaceful spot we thought wouldn't it be great to live here year 'round? Then we walked inside and, wow! This is exactly what you would expect a luxurious mountain home to look like. From the rock arch over the guest tub to the craftsman style front door, an artist was definitely hard at work here.
